there’s something wonderful about hopelessness. the knowing that things cannot get
any worse. there’s beauty in that.

a tv flickers into life. another city lost in a sea of light. the volumes too
low to hear the newscaster. wonder whose outside.

most folk have left. traffics back logged for miles. everyone should just accept
that everything comes tumbling down at some point. it’s just our turn now.

the armies around. somewhere. it exists in two states. in retreat, and about to
retreat. so much dust in the wind.

that’s the thing. hope can let you down. hopelessness doesn’t. that reliability.
it’s nice.
